The three ships were the Santa Maria, the Pinta and the Nina. Here they are.
The Santa Maria was the leader of the ships. Christopher was the captain of this ship.
The ships were made of wood. We learnt last month that wood is a material. Our desks, doors and pencils are made of wood.

The sailors were scared to go on the journey for four reasons.
1. They thought they would get scurvy. This is when your teeth fall out and your bones break because you don't eat fruit and vegatables.
2. They thought there were sea monsters in the oceans.
3. They thought they would fall off the edge of the world because it was flat. We know that the Earth is a 3-D shape. It's a sphere.
4. They thought that if they went too close to the sun they would burn to ash.
